When your child needs dental treatment for his/her cavities, Dr. Tran can recommend a form of sedation to keep your child comfortable while they are receiving dental treatment. Because Dr. Tran has had additional training as a Pediatric Dentist, she is licensed and well-qualified to treat your child with any of the three forms of sedation.

Nitrous Oxide Sedation ("Laughing Gas" or "Magic Air")
Nitrous oxide is a blend of two gases- oxygen and nitrous oxide. When inhaled, it is absorbed by the body and has a calming effect. Nitrous oxide is perhaps the safest sedative in dentistry and is widely used in pediatric dentistry.

Oral Conscious Sedation
Oral Conscious sedation is a management technique that uses medications to assist the child in coping with fear and anxiety and cooperate with dental treatment without the loss of consciousness. The oral medication(s) are administered and monitored by Dr. Tran.

I.V. Sedation
I.V. Sedation or I.V. Anesthesia is the management technique that uses medications to enable the child to be asleep during dental treatment. The anesthesia is administered and monitored by a trained dental anesthesiologist. Children with severe anxiety and/or inability to cooperate are good candidates.

Prior to the use of any type of sedative, Dr. Tran will discuss with you the risks, benefits, and alternatives to the treatment. For further questions or concerns, please call our office.
